The Client

Organizational Concept

Material Concept

Sharina Mae Agellon

Jung-Hwa and his wife, Tae Youn are a couple in their 60’s who wish to renovate their home to accomodate their son and his family. They expect this to be their final home, to be passed down to their son, Kai. Kai and his wife, Sun, have a five-year-old son, Liam. They would like their home to be an eclectic blend of American and Korean influences. While at home, the family likes to spend time together, but they also agree that everyone needs ample privacy. They enjoy spending time outside, which is why
they feel it is important to build up, rather than out.

A mixture of white with warm earth tones, paired with natural materials, such as wood and natural stone, will make the space feel comfortable and at harmony with nature. A number of materials selected will also be accomodating of age-in-place requirements, such as smooth flooring with slip resistance. Subtle texture and patterns will add an Asian-inspired interest which inforces the simplistic, clean-lined design of the home.

Organizational Concept

Spatial organization strategies to accomodate the Yi residence include separate kitchen and living spaces for parents and grandparents, two master suites, a large playroom and entertainment room, plenty of outdoor deck space, and an office that does not intrude on family dynamics.
